Japanese Umbrella │ William Storey
An original contemporary relief sculpture exploring inner stillness, vulnerability, and emotional balance. Japanese Umbrella unfolds as a quiet pilgrimage toward restoration of the self.
At its centre stands a delicate, floral figure, partially concealed and i
ntertwined within the translucent ribs of an umbrella. A sinuous dragon moves through the composition - coiling, whispering, almost dancing within the structure. At first glance, the work appears serene - fragile, composed, and weightless. Yet beneath this surface lies a subtle tension, a concealed unrest held in quiet suspension.
The umbrella becomes both shelter and disguise - its transparency revealing just enough while obscuring what trembles beneath. The work reflects the tension between outward composure and inner truth, suggesting that serenity is not found in concealment, but in the courage to be seen.
Rendered with refined detail and soft tonal contrast, this piece offers a contemplative, figurative presence - a distinctive statement artwork for luxury interiors and private collections.
