When Collector Meets Artist - At the Beginning of a Remarkable Journey
A few weeks ago, within the quiet elegance of The Grand Hotel Birmingham, we witnessed something rare.
A collector meeting the artist behind the work they had already chosen to live with.
It was the first time they had met Mengyao Qin in person - arriving to experience a private preview of the residency and to collect Fool’s Paradise, a piece that had resonated with them months before. What followed was not simply a transaction completed, but a moment of genuine connection - one that lingered long after.
These encounters are not always the norm, which is precisely what makes them so meaningful. There is something quietly powerful about seeing the relationship between artwork and collector come to life, standing in the presence of the artist who created it.

The Work - Fool’s Paradise
Fool’s Paradise finds its origins in the ballet of the same name, and in the music of composer Joby Talbot. Qin describes the composition as “clean and sublime” - a space where movement and sound dissolve into something fluid, luminous, and quietly powerful.
This sense of atmosphere is central to her practice.
Drawing also from memories of rain in Hangzhou, where shifting layers of green and scent create an almost immersive sensory experience, Qin translates these impressions into paint. The result is work that feels both organic and composed - where emotion is held within structure, and spontaneity exists alongside control.
Her paintings exist in a rare space between instinct and precision. Expressive, yet refined. Sensitive, yet assured.

A Practice in Motion
Born in Nanchong, China, and currently based in the UK, Mengyao Qin represents a new generation of artists working at the intersection of cultural influence, movement, and abstraction. Currently completing her Post-Master’s at Kingston University, her practice continues to evolve with clarity and intent.
Already, her work is beginning to resonate with collectors who recognise not only its emotional depth, but its long-term significance.
Beyond Placement - Creating Connection
Moments like this serve as a reminder of why the collective was formed.
Not simply to place artworks, but to create meaningful connections between people and the work they choose to live with. To offer artists the platform they deserve, and to allow collectors to engage with something far more lasting than decoration.
To create moments that stay with you.

An Opportunity in the Present
As an artist at an early and highly promising stage in her career, there is a natural window of opportunity for collectors to acquire original works by Mengyao Qin.
From smaller, more accessible pieces to ambitious large-scale paintings, her collection currently spans a considered range - offering entry points for both new and established collectors. Each work carries the same emotional clarity and evolving language that defines her practice.
What is evident is that this is only the beginning.
And for those paying attention, moments like these mark the early chapters of something far greater.
